Compact Volume Loads Of Information
This is the information that Capitol left off of their CD booklets, track by track annotation of all of their songs. A great companion to your CD collection or a good book to read to get thoughts on how the Beatles crafted their music.

The Beatles (Rock and Roll Hall of Famers)
Published in Library Binding by Rosen Publishing Group (January, 2002)
Author: Jim Wentzel
Average review score:

A GREAT introduction for yound readers
Looking to introduce the youngsters in your life to REAL rock and roll? Or simply to connect them to a part of your own past that shaped their present? If so, Mr. Wentzel's book is a joy and a delight. Written with charm and wit, this book helps young people understand just why the Beatles were so very special.

My only complaint is the cover photo. Given the terrific shots inside, they could have done so much better for what will be many yound readers' first impression of the Fab Four. Thankfully, Wentzel's words make up for that shortcoming.

Enjoy it with the children in YOUR life!

A Perfect Blend of Nostalgia & Memorabilia
This is definitely a well presented volume I would highly recommend for those interested in music from that particular era.

It is a brilliant summary of a large portion of the musical genres, formats, and marketing strategies that existed during the 1960s. Even a reader who is not particularly a Beatles fan will likely find this book fascinating and enlightening.

The Beatles Down Under: The 1964 Australia and New Zealand Tour (Rock and Roll Remembrances Series, No 7)
Published in Hardcover by Pierian Pr (February, 1986)
Authors: Glenn A. Baker and Roger Dilernia
Average review score:

THE GREAT UNTOLD STORY
In all the books written about The Beatles, the Australian tour of July 1964 is usually dismissed with the three word reference "Far East Tour". This book was the first attempt to redress that injustice. Quite simply, the Beatles tour turned Australia upside down. In Adelaide 600,000 people gathered outside the hotel where they were staying (Adelaide had a population of 1.4 million). John Lennon told reporters "This is the greatest reception we've had anywhere in the world". In this book, acclaimed rock historian Glenn A. Baker chronicles the tour, and the visit to New Zealand. There is one glaring inaccuracy - it is claimed that the group slept with hundreds of young girls during the tour. This has been discredited by Ringo and George. Anybody familiar with the group would know that there was simply no time for this type of funny business, besides Brian Epstein kept them on a tight reign and wouldn't have allowed it. This part was probably included to get some cheap headlines in Australia's more salacious tabloids. One interesting section is the information on Jimmy Nicol, the stand-in drummer who filled in for Ringo during the first half of the tour. There is also the devastating photo showing Nicol sitting in a deserted airport terminal waiting for the flight back to England. All in all this book is a must for any serious Beatle afficionado. It gives a stark illustration of a country still coming to grips with not only a rock tour but a whole social phenomenon.

The Beatles Live (Book With Record)
Published in Paperback by Henry Holt (Paper) (November, 1986)
Author: Mark Lewisohn
Average review score:

A Timeline of Live Beatle Magic
I brought this book and read it from cover to cover a number of years back and I continually pick it up to check the facts. The book has a wealth of information about the live performances of the Beatles from 1957 to the last live performance on the 29th August 1966 at The Candlestick Park San Francisco. It details what songs were played and who sang the lead vocal. A breif history of the period under review. Remember Beatlemaina in Adelaide back in 1964 where more than 300,000 fans lined the streets to see their heros. Its all descibed here. This is a must have book and despite being able to have some of this book reproduced in Mark Lewisohn's The Complete Beatles Chronicles, you still need this book. Its worth the search for it.

The Beatles London
Published in Hardcover by St. Martin's Press (January, 1995)
Authors: Mark Lewisohn, Piet Schreuders, and Adam Smith
Average review score:

Wonderful
I gave this book to my brother when he moved to London, and he later said it was addictive to have around and use to visit where the Beatles did what they did. I visited him since then, and used the book myself to visit scenes from the movie HELP and A HARD DAY'S NIGHT, go to Chiswick House to see where The Beatles filmed the "Paperback Writer" and "Rain" videos, and go to many other Beatles London sites. This is a must-have book for anyone who is a Beatles fan and is going to visit London. Or for anyone who wants to be an armchair explorer of their old haunts. It's entertaining reading even if you'll never go to London.
